Welcome, and thank you for visiting! I’m Felicia, an early childhood educator, consultant, and mediator with a deep passion for supporting children and educators impacted by trauma. Why this passion? Well, it’s personal. I’m living proof of the incredible difference an educator can make in the life of a child who’s facing trauma.

Growing up in a single-parent home, I faced more than my fair share of challenges—divorce, financial struggles, living transitions, and worse. By the time I was 17, I had experienced trauma that no child should have to go through. But throughout all of it, there were educators who saw me, cared for me, and made me feel like I mattered when I felt the most alone. Their compassion changed my life, and that’s why I’m so passionate about supporting educators who work with children facing similar struggles.

When I became an early childhood educator myself, I began to notice the signs of trauma in my students—often with little support or resources to help them. I also felt the toll it was taking on my own emotional and mental wellbeing. It was during the pandemic that I realized something needed to change, and that’s when Roots & Resilience Consulting was born.

I want to create a space where educators can feel seen, supported, and respected as they navigate the complexities of working with traumatized students—while also managing their own secondary trauma. I know what it feels like to be frustrated, overwhelmed, and unsure of how to help a child who’s struggling. Over the past 18 years, I’ve developed a toolbox of strategies, resources, and mindset shifts that have helped me build stronger relationships with my students, their families, and my colleagues.

As an educator who’s been right there in the trenches with you, I want you to know: you’re not alone. Together, we can create a space of healing, hope, and restoration—for our students and for ourselves. We might not be able to fix every trauma a child has experienced, but we can offer them a safe space to heal, and that’s something truly powerful.
